So what do you use besides Time Machine

Post by Vulture »

Does everybody have faith in Time Machine? Sure I use it as the bare minimum if I can but what is the next best or better option? Something that you don't have to buy just to use? Something that can clone a bootable partition?

Time Machine to a Synology for local backups, Backblaze for cloud backups. Select files/projects are backed up a third time (coding goes to GitHub, photos are backed up to iCloud, etc). Two is one and one is none™.

Arq Backup with a cloud-based storage solution.

It creates an encrypted backup on whatever location you want. You can also have it back up to an attached disk or to one on your local network.

I have samba set up to do time machine backups to my ZFS array.

Then the time machine backups go to crash plan on the internets.

Your powers are useless! I'm wearing my tinfoil underwear!

I don’t use Time Machine. I regularly back up my important files to a synology NAS.

I use Time Machine, and it has served me well. I have three Time Capsules set up around the house, so one of them shitting the bed doesn’t wipe out my backups. Then I have one in my German abode, so that’s geographical separation covered, too. Used to have a neat setup where my parents’ Time Capsule would rsync nightly to mine, but provider changes broke that and I haven’t gotten round to fixing it.
