It's a mid-2012 Macbook Pro, I just bought a new battery for it and replaced the optical drive with another SSD.

Granted, I don't do much heavy computing with it, just internetting and watching videos. The only time it really shows its age is when converting videos from my gopro.

I recently thinned the herd, but I still have a small stack of old laptops kicking around.

I have my original iBook SE (G3, the plastic clamshell ones that look like the old iMacs) as well as my original G5 Tower. All the machines after that were sold/given away; but those are sticking around.

I should boot them up sometime to see what a time capsule they are… if they still even start lol.

I have, under my desk, a PowerBook G4 and two Intel Macbook Pros. There have been weird software and connectivity situations where I've actually pulled them out and used them.

I finally dumped all of my old Macbook Pros.

The best one I've ever owned was the 15" 2013 i7-4850HQ dual graphics, and I only recently moved up to a 2025 M4 Max to replace it.

That was one of the best models, imo. I have a 2008 and a 2009 around here somewhere, but I genuinely like the 2012’s best

My father owns a 2020 MacBook Air but still uses his 2009 iMac as his main machine. It's been struck by lightning twice.

He's finally decided that the next time I visit, he will go buy a new iMac. :p

Is it the form factor or the newer OS that keeps your father from using the Air?

I use the Macbook as a 2nd screen and have a 27" Cinema Display with a separate keyboard and that's been the perfect set up for home use.
Soon I'm going to have to get into the modern Mac OS, if only because old browsers won't be supported and at some point I think my iPhone won't talk to Catalina.

I had 5 MacBook Pro (including the M4 Max I am typing upon that I bought on Dec. 31, 2024, by the expectation that the prices for ALL electronics would go up YUGELY with the incoming Trump administration), although one of those MBPs I sent down to uki in Venezuela via UPS. It was my last Intel-based MBP though I have forgotten which year (um, 2019?).

I also have an all-white G3 iBook from which I had removed its hard drive (um...I have forgotten why I had done that). I bought that iBook on the very first day it was available from one of the first Apple Stores to open (the Glendale store in Los Angeles)

Oh, and I almost had forgotten an old PowerMac G3 inside of which I had replaced its CPU with a G4 chip. It has been quite a while since I have even turned it on. I had it connected to an old battery UPS which has since died.

I have a couple older laptops but I shelved my 2013 15" rMBP a couple years ago when I got a 14" M2 rMBP. Haven't used it since.

I have a Powerbook 5300, 190, and 1400 that worked when I put them in the crate. And I think about 1 1/2 Wallstreet G3s worth of parts.

I have a 2009 chiclet Macbook, but it has no RAM or SSD. (I think I gave them to someone here, actually.)

When my brother died I "inherited" the pile of stuff he had in my dads basement, including a 14" iBook G4, an HP EliteBook, and an XBox 360. That's all still in the box because 1) It still smells like cigarettes, and 2) I still don't really want to go through it.

I had one for a few years that I was using daily up until 2023 when I think either the logic board or DC in board kicked the bucket. Whatever, it doesn’t boot anymore and seems to fry whatever RAM i put in it. Got a mate down in Adelaide who might need one for parts so hanging onto it in case he needs me to send it over

I'm still rocking a 2011 MBP. With an SSD and maxed out RAM, it still does almost everything I need it to do - except run the current MacOS.
