Time to show us who you're spending all of your quality time with!

First my whampuses:

Image
This is my fatty boom batty Rocket. She likes sniffing funk, sitting on your face, and eating.

Image
This is little Lulu. She enjoys getting high, staring at crickets, and sticking her velcro paws to your leg.

Next my tank critters:

Image
Freggoy is an American Toad who likes staying as still as possible, eating anything the size of his head or smaller that wiggles, and climbing in moss.

Image
Lively is a Betta who tried to escape his cup at PetSmart and now enjoys poking snails and starting at Christmas lights.

Image
Angel is one of many fish in my 55 gallon tank, but the only one who will watch for me to open the freezer door in anticipation of blood worms. Always on the ready!

And finally, my bonus pets:

Image
Steve is an old man who loves daily showers and snuggling in a fresh laundry basket. This is a change from his wild days as an expert hunter and outdoor explorer.

Image
Izzy is 99% joy and loves snow more than Frosty himself. She can run as fast as a bullet and has no manners, but will charm you anyway.

Who are you hanging out with these days?

I visited Galway last summer. Beautiful, as was the rest of the country. Pet pics coming later

Sadly I have no pets because I know I would be much too negligent to be a good or even a bad owner.

My brother and my sister have a dog each. I do enjoy each of them when they come over (or when I go to THEIR houses), but I know that I have a somewhat variable time limit after which I will be considered by them as not paying them not enough attention.

First few photos are the recent foster dogs. Seemed like chihuahuas mixes were popular this year. The Merle chihuahua was notable as being a bit of a designer breed. The black pug/chi was an absolute bastard. The sort-of-golden retriever looking dog was a super mutt (I ran his DNA for fun) but he chewed the leading edge off one of my stairs.

The larger brown pit bull in some of the photos is my dog, Coco. I adopted him in February of ‘24. He’s from Alabama and is always cold, so he wears a hoodie most of the time.

Now the cats:

Dixie is the calico. She’s 14. I adopted her in December ‘21 shortly after I bought my house.

The gray point is Rosie. I got her as a kitten a bit over two years ago. Dixie decided that was cool and raised Rosie like a daughter. They patrol the basement together and kill mice.

The white and orange guy is Toto. He’s new; I’ve had him almost a month and he’s a bit less than a year old. The other two cats have mostly adjusted; Rosie still hisses at him if he gets too close but Dixie is completely chill with him. Toto gets neutered tomorrow.

Here’s a better shot of Coco.

And here is Coco yesterday after a bath. He’s naked but clean:

People keep warning me about pit bulls and making jokes about my “security system” but honestly he’s pretty useless that way.

I also want to give a shoutout to this dude: Agoyo.

He got adopted a little over a year ago, but I had him for six months and I am NEVER fostering a mastiff again. Even a small one. They apparently always smell like wet dog. Like a perma-musk.

He was a sweetie with me, but anything that was too small, he didn’t like. Cats, toy dogs, toddlers. Too small to be allowed. Also, he and Coco didn’t get along too great. And, his poops were bigger than mine.

He eventually learned that he could mess with Coco’s head by hiding tennis balls in his mouth. He enjoyed that a lot. He also enjoyed lying directly in the path of the lawnmower so I would have to stop and give him head pats before I could continue.

He learned to defuse conflicts by sitting on Coco until Coco calmed down.

The he ate a box of qtips and had bloody diarrhea all over my basement. Fortunately it only caused “passing” irritation, no permanent injury.

He weighed about a hundred pounds, and would press his head against your chest to give the best dog-hugs ever.

Other trivia: Coco has a bum leg. His left femur was, at some point, broken and it healed wrong. So we do daily PT and he takes pain meds.

I suspect, but cannot prove, that the injury is related to his intense hatred of diesel engine noise, and very specific fear of school busses. I live on a fairly bus street, and a diesel of any kind will make him growl in his sleep. Likewise, if we’re on a walk and he sees a school bus? We are now walking a different direction.

I don’t have any pets myself, though I visit Mum regularly, who has two dogs, Molly and Lucy. Molly thinks I’m absolutely wonderful, and always has from the moment she first saw me. Whenever I visit it’s like Christmas lol. Lucy likes me too because of all the attention she gets when I visit, but not as much as Molly. Speaking of which, Molly had her hair cut today. I always call her “skinny mini girl” when she’s had her hair cut because there’s literally nothing of her underneath all that hair lol.

(Molly is the one near my knee, Lucy is the one near the door)

Currently have 10 cat, four of them long term fosters - three are mine, three live here but aren't mine (but two think they are, cats seem to like me)

Long story short - younger brother got arrested Jan 01, 2025. End of June, he contacts us about an emergency, there's two prison yard cats one his yard buddies was taken care of that needed a home before animal control was called. July 5th, we picked them up - Sully and her fourth month old kitten Star. July 8th to 9th, Sully gave birth to five kittens under my dresser.

Sully, Star, and one of the kittens are now long-term fosters awaiting the release of the inmate that took care of them. One of the other kittens is a long-term foster for an autistic woman who is a candidate for assisted living but currently lives in a group home, but she come three or four days every week. Three of the kittens we found homes for through the rescue I am working with.

The rescue I work with does not use kennels except when kittens are rotated through the local Petco kennels, it uses foster volunteers to house cats/kittens until they are adopted.

Right now, the long-term fosters are the only fosters I currently have but kitten season is almost upon us so I'll be fostering more soon.

Here's a picture of Sully with the five kittens after she moved them into the nesting box I made for her:
