How do you maintain your privacy these days?

Post by oath »

So in this modern age of government and private companies tracking every part of our lives how do you maintain your slice of your private life?
I stopped using MacOS, and WIndows, except for Chrome and MacOS at work because I have no choice. I use GrapheneOS phone, Linux for all
my personal gaming and general computing needs. I self host almost everything I can now using ZimaOS, Sandstorm.org, got a pihole blocking
ads on the home network. Anyone have any tips or tricks?

How hardcore do you want to go? It's possible to track people via the 'always connected' nature of modern cars and quite a few other unexpected mechanisms.

I am already working on ways to disable that in my new car I didn't even want a car this new for that reason but there are some reasonable ways around most of it. Ideally I like to
take a older car and get it electrified. I generally want lower my profile across the spectrum as much as possible without living out in the middle of the desert (yet). I forgot to mention
I use only open source smart watches or plain analog ones as well.

My newest cars are a 2001 and 2007, and I don't intend to go much newer :) I mostly lost interest in new cars after around 2017 when local production ended, its all about the old stuff for me now. Good luck trying to track my location through my aftermarket CD player with iPod connectivity :) I mostly use Linux these days, self host everything (apart from email), most of which is on a secure VLAN with no connection to the outside world. Don't use social media (apart from Facebook which I still use mainly to keep in touch with friends), don't have any "smart" appliances apart from my phone, Philips Hue lighting and a smart TV (which doesn't have a network connection, all the "smart" stuff is done via my AppleTV). With the exception of my computers and entertainment system, most of my appliances are old school analog. For the most part I don't stream, most of my entertainment is via free to air TV, DVDs, Blu-Rays, my self hosted Emby server, CDs, tapes, vinyl or my massive iTunes library, so no algorithm keeping track of my habits. Also I don't use AI, don't want nothing to do with it

I have a HUGE amount of stuff to post in this discussion, but I want to see if there's a way to make this topic hidden from the public before doing so.

A members only forum would be grand.
