It did this in May of 2018. Since then, I've only gone through 56 cycles. And it looks like it would be $199 to fix, but this system is from 2014.

Wow, the 2009 MBP I got from a user here appears to still be on its original battery, and while it doesn't last long, it's still "good". As an aside, you can probably get a battery and do it yourself for a lot less than $199.

That said, if you do decide to retire it, give me a heads up. I might be interested.

That's wasteful luck.

My 2013 rMBP is not only on its original battery, but it's been so scary-reliable I bought a second one with 16GB of RAM.

It did get enough backpack dirt inside that the trackpad stopped working. I sent it to MacResQ to be cleaned out (the tech said it was "yeah... pretty bad"), and it was money well spent, IMHO.

I just wish you could still find/buy ThunderBolt 2 peripherals/cables. Friggin' hen's teeth.

Well I can...

But the amount of effort I am willing to put into a 6-year-old machine...

Oh that's an issue. I want a new MacBook Pro, but 16". And that's a Mac that may not exist for another six months or so.

Eh, it may not matter anyway. I'm not sure if it's just this area, or if these things really hold value that well, but people around here are asking nearly $1k for 2013 MBPs on offerup.com and Craigslist. Too rich for me at the moment.

Yeah, I would definitely be aiming for over $1000.

This thing has 16GB and a 1TB SSD. And it's 2014. It was the top i7 at the time.

I'm calling Apple right now. It was $199 to replace the battery last time.

Don't attempt this on your own. That's how I hosed my last MBP.
My co-workers is bulging also. Lame beyond lame.

I have a pretty good track record fixing devices like this(only ever hosed one, out of the many devices I've fixed), but it's not something I'd want to do.
Alexander Supertramp this was uncalled for.

It's inappropriate to talk about your co-worker's bulge.
