The rumored iPhone 12 lineup is expected to have a new design with squared-off edges (perhaps similar to the iPad Pro) and support for 5G networks. It’s also supposed to come in four different models, including a new 5.4-inch size (which would be smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro) and a 6.7-inch size (which would be the largest iPhone ever).

Apple is rumored to have a number of other products in the works, including new over-ear headphones, a smaller and more affordable HomePod, and a competitor to Tile’s location tracking tags that are apparently called AirTags. There’s always the chance Apple shares more about those at the event. And Apple announced in June that it would be releasing its first ARM-based Mac by the end of this year, so we could learn more about that, too.

I'm looking forward to AirTags. And eager for Big Sur.

I love how they try to make a big deal out of incredibly minor variations on the shape of a rectangle.
It is to giggle over.

'Things' don't have sizes and shapes, they have design language, geometric paradigms and form-factors. And they aren't 'thing's' anyway, they're skus. That's how we know we want them.

I have realized within the last few months that my 2014 MacBook Pro is probably due for a replacement.

But then they announced the move to ARM, and I decided that I would probably want to hold off until that's done.

Any particular reason? At this point it wouldn’t surprise me if my 2013 lasted another 5 years.

Jobs wasn't interested in being the next Gateway or HP. He very specifically aimed his products for the high-end, making the computing equivalent of luxury goods. In that, I would say he was pretty successful. Apple is worth vastly more than Dell, despite selling a fraction of the computers.

Apple is as big as it is because of phones. Jobs' philosophy was a complete failure when it comes to computers. NGL, the way he managed to have such an explosive success with the iPhone and managed to barely have any halo effect pulling up the sales of Macs is pretty amazing. Mac sales grew but only slightly and only with laptops where a customer could buy a familiar form factor instead of unpopular niche designs like all in ones and minis.
The universe finally provided Jobs with a product he couldn't fiddlesticks up.

I’m guessing the Apple Reality Distortion field wore up a long time ago.

Me? I’m just content to see my share price rise.

Just be thankful he's dead. The world and the iPhone are both better for it.

Without his return, the company very likely would have been dissolved and the money returned to the shareholders.
