I'm running macOS 10.14.4, and Time Machine has been stuck at 'Cleaning Up Old Backups' for a few hours now.

I tried stopping the backup and starting a new one. Dismounting and remounting the external hard drive. The results has always been the same.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Reformat your time machine drive and start again

Yeah, solved the problem. There wasn't enough space.

Odd that, that should cause an issue. It's supposed to just auto delete the oldest backup for you and keep going. (mine has warned me a couple of times that it's deleting old backups, but it just kept on keeping on)

Might it have something to do with having the other half of the drive partitioned in exFat? Ever since that happened, Time Machine has been wonky.
