I thought the same thing about trackpads, but the haptic pad is amazing.

I gotta be honest I can't see it being any better considering that the complaints with the current keyboards is lack of travel, but maybe a really good haptics engine could help if it's able to give enough feedback. But i feel like you can experiment with one of those laser keyboards first and see how well it works.

The complain I saw in a recent video is that the keyboards are failing, like a lot of sticky keys.
