I'm burning some DVDs for a friend (a bunch of Boosh, hence the reference in the title); it's 7 discs, and I'm making cool sleeves for them with templates from this site:

But I still want to mark the discs, even if it's just to number them. Are sharpies really okay, or do the chemicals in them damage the DVD over time? Any recommendations?

I've been using sharpies for years on DVDs and CDs. I've not noticed any problems.

I've seen anecdotal claims that it could damage a disk over time, but my own experience contradicts it, so as usual anecdotal evidence proves nothing.

Google didn't turn up any hard science on the subject either. If you're concerned, find special CD markers that use water based ink instead.

Sharpies frighten me. I shriek like a little girl when someone surprises me with them.

Then I change my pants. :(

I don't really want to talk about it. Suffice to say that I may never play the violin again.

I finished the jacket for the first 2 discs. It looks pretty good for a first attempt, if I do say so myself.
