Facebook Prison

Post by Pithecanthropus »

Well, I'm in Facebook prison for 24 hours. Why? On an news story about eviction protection which will expire shortly a guy made a comment that was basically, "Good. Tell them to get real jobs." to which I responded, "Gee. Your sense of empathy is truly inspiring. Dick."

I got a 24 ban for "bullying." I wonder if the original dude got any punishment?

Facebook is a festering cesspool of filth and malice. Consider it a surprise blessing.

I wonder what would have happened if you had stopped at the word inspiring.

Doubt it.

Normally I just scroll on past, but there were these comments on a post where some poor woman’s photo was featured in the news story, all “She looks like she wants to suck a rooster!” crap. I took the time to report it. Facebook very quickly told me it didn’t go against their community guidelines.

What a great community.

i loathe facebook, but if i didn't have it i'd certainly lose touch with a lot of people

My experience is that racism and bigotry are protected opinion on Facebook, so long as you’re not using the n word. It’s a garbage site for garbage people, I hate I need to use it to keep in touch with people.

I attended a summer program at the National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) when I was in high school - I think it was 1991, because I was driving my own car at the time. As much as it fascinated me to learn about the biology of genetics, cellular reproduction, PCR amplification (which was still somewhat new at the time), and (of course) cancer and disease, what really tickled my interest was the center's computer network and the fact that it had Internet access.

So, I requested, and was granted, temporary access to a server in Washington DC for my end of program presentation, where I demonstrated using telnet to login and run programs on a computer hundreds of miles away. Oh, and the temporary account had a mailbox - so I was able to check my email on that system as part of the demo. It was mind-blowing in an era where most people thought Compuserve and AOL were "high tech".

At that time, there was still a map of every known computer on the Internet.

So, an old high-school drinking buddy posted on facebook some "I'm not taking a vaccine because of tracking chips!" nonsense.
I replied with LOLs, and said, "Dude, you've already got your tracking chip! It's in your hand RIGHT NOW!"

Love this! I got banned for a whole month for saying that Americans were stupider (than Donald Trump). Anyone beat my record?

That statement can be verified with empirical evidence. There’s no way it is ban worthy.

I’m on a mandatory 7 day break from Twitter.
Haven’t managed to have a forced from Fb.
Then again, Fb only has about 25 followers and twitland is somewhat higher.

I just can’t imagine my senator Cruz blocking me. My fragile e-ego is devastated

i know someone that is constantly in FB jail. Hers are usually 30-60 days because it's so often. I'm surprised they don't just kick her off the platform.

Goddamn. I'm on another ban. 3 days this time. Obviously someone doesn't like the fact that I find the uncouth individuals that stormed the Capital Building to be seditious trolls.

don't feel bad, they locked trump out of twitter and facebook, at least for one day

I hope you can find creative ways to sidestep the bans

I have said some really inflammatory things on Facebook and have never been banned but I know people who have been temp banned for much milder things than I say with regularity.
The ban process at FB seems very arbitrary.

Yeah, I've been banned again for my response to a post about Louie Gohmert calling on republicans for violent resistance (even before Trump did).

Their nanny retort was "Facebook does not allow the glorification of violence or any posts that may lead to violence."

How the fiddlesticks are we supposed to respond in a country that does little else BUT glorify and pursue violence? And mine was just a hypothetical "make my day, punk" post, while our actual LEADERS have a free mouthpiece to plug any incendiary propaganda they want.

Also, I notice they always find a reason to ban my lefty views whenever there's an election taking place.

It seems to come down to who your friends are, and which of them are whiny little uncouth individuals. This is also why I almost never post on FB - I just use it to keep up with my friend and family with the occasional like or uplifting comment.
