weird update from his crazy daughter spells out a hell of a tale

basically after his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, peterson became severely addicted to valium ... at some point the family decided he had some kind of food allergy, all doctors in north america rolled their eyes at him, and he went to russia (why is it always russia??) to seek treatment, involving some form of detoxing

apparently he's experienced some neurological damage (can't type, can't speak) but is "recovering"

so basically the old fraud had mental health issues all along ... maybe now he'll be left alone to live out his life, eh?

yeah right, the media gives extra attention to people with mental health issues -- such great viz!

From what I’ve read of it, he wanted to go off benzos cold turkey, and doctors in Canada told him that was stick fiddling stupid, he’d need to be given a steadily declining amount to ween off. So he said socialism bad and went to the states, where they told him it’s stick fiddling stupid to get off benzos cold turkey. Finally he found some doctors in Russia that were willing to take his money and let him be stick fiddling stupid.
Apparently they put him into a medically induced coma so that he wouldn’t be conscious for the initial withdrawal symptoms. His daughter said that no doctors in Canada or the US “had the guts” to do it.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Another case of the "I don't need no freakin' experts with decades of experience to tell me what to do!" attitude that is so prevalent nowadays.

Not only is he a mess, he's going to survive and talk about it publicly while people who have unfounded hatred for him and his family will hate every second of it because free speech and free thinking disrupts the status quo that is handed down through indoctrination that makes sure everyone behaves like good little boys and girls.
I think he is not near as bright as he believes himself to be and that it’s a shame so many boys are drawn to his philosophies.

On the other hand I feel sympathy for his health situation and actually have no wish for him or his family to suffer.

Rush Limbaugh is the dude that I’m at least ambivalent about his bad fortune. At least.

I assume you're referring squarely to the one thing that most people know Jordan Peterson for, which is to speak out against the preposterous HR16 code that he has proven time and again he was correct about and treated unfairly about all along the way in the media, while he publicly dismantled people in the media quite beautifully as they attempted to smear and misrepresent him. I will also assume you are one of the people who have strangely taken a stance against his position for some personal reasons. Or you can explain that I am wrong and that you agree with Peterson. But, the first and last time I checked, this thread is not about politics but rather about a biased delusional hatred and judgement for Peterson and his whole family for yet undisclosed reasons. What I am doing is chiming in about is if this is strictly not a political topic, I'd like to hear a moral case for Peterson family delusional hatred that isn't clearly explained away by just listening to biased media sources.

Strangely, I could have chosen a side politically and sniffed out that this is a guy I need to hate for the team, but as an independent observer I can't see the political team pile on unless one is a helpless team player, which is fine if you can admit to such a thing. After all, it's everywhere, hatred for Trump with TDS, hatred for anything except "blue" in the US, unless of course you're slandered by Clinton as being a Russian asset even though you're on team blue, then somehow "doesn't matter who" doesn't apply, the US can love Senator Warren on team blue even though she was red until the age of 47 and is as repulsive as any politician despite the team color, and the list goes on. Sure I don't live in Canada, and quite frankly Peterson is a blessing to both countries of North America simply by being able to speak freely until his opponents tried to silence him at every turn and failed.

So yeah, just asking what the point of this thread was if not to make a dubious political pile on for a man and his whole family with zero regard for their well being in times of desperation and tragedy. Not a good look.

I'd no idea who he was (I think he's been mentioned on this forum before, maybe). He does come across as quite a douche, although I agree with him that the PC police have gone too far...but if you say things publicly, you deserve all the criticism you get for it. Some of his ideas seem unlikely to me: that the feminization of society causes males to become violent, for instance...is a complete simplification. What is happening is that males who can cope and thrive in this (i.e. the wiser ones) are managing quite well, while the reptile-brained ones are being pushed aside...so naturally their urge is to hate and smash. But the feminization of society is not the problem, they are.

I agree with Vulture, though, I can see no reason for this being anywhere but the Senate forum.

I don't know--nor care about--who Jordan Peterson is. THIS SITE is the only place where I have heard of him at all.

If you’re curious, this is a decent article about him. It’s a couple years old, and the author is definitely critical of him, but I think he outlines Peterson’s views fairly.

hopefully his current medical issue can shine more light on the dangers of over prescribed prescription drugs and how drug addiction is a disease that afflicts people from all walks of life.

Hopefully we can also get to a point where we recognize that the only difference between someone like Jordan Peterson and someone sleeping on stairs in East Vancouver, is money. One is not a person with a “physical dependence” issue, and the other a “piece of human waste junkie.”

I totally agree. Peterson is an opinionated confused individual, but like cancer, I can’t wish addiction on anyone. It does bother me intensely how many high functioning “legal” junkies look down their noses at street junkies.

Ah, so he's one of those incel gurus who calls the Nazis leftists since they had the word socialist in their name. Ah, well, fiddlesticks him.

Benzo addiction is some bad mojo. That stuff will fiddlesticks you up and withdrawals can kill you so the induced coma is likely medically called for.
You don't hear much about benzo addiction. People I know who got hooked on benzos stepped over to higher powered stuff like opioids before their addictions got real bad.
I am kind of impressed Peterson was able to source enough Valium and Clonazepam to sustain a serious addiction. Those drugs don't come in really large dosages so you'd be literally eating hand-fulls of them at a time. He would almost certainly had to be drinking on them as well.
As for Peterson...He is a Buchanan-like "intellectual". A lot of what he says is perfectly sensible but then he will let some crazy out.
I don't have any particular animosity towards him. He is just another in the chattering class chorus. I do kinda feel bad for him. People do tend to underestimate the addictive power of prescription drugs so I am sure he had no idea he was taking one of the worst drugs to be hooked on.
Tbh, he would have an easier time of it if he had used opioids.
I have an anxiety disorder. I have a bottle of Ativan. I had it made abundantly clear how easy it was to get hooked on them. Therefore, I don’t take them all that often, saving them for debilitating panic attacks.

I doubt any doctor hooked JP up with benzos without also making it clear how easily abused they are. Addiction doesn’t make him a bad person, just not nearly as smart a person as he thinks he is.

Wise move. Benzos are risky for regular use. A user can develop a tolerance really fast with Benzos. I have experienced that my self and it is surprising how fast you can go from taking a 20mg to taking 5 of them for the same, subjective, effect.
It's stick fiddling insidious really.

That's good for you.

He's a master of sophistry and is generally well-known. A lot of the things he says are absolutely disgusting.

And I honestly wouldn't wish what he's going through on him. Unfortunately, we live in a time where I can't say I wouldn't wish it on *anyone*, but I wouldn't wish it on him or on most people.

Idiot is Canadian. He can afford ibogaine treatment for addiction and it is legal there. He probably doesn't really want to be cured.

he's not "dangerous" like so many people like to claim, he's just a guy who's wrong about practically everything -- whether by accident or on purpose i have no way of knowing -- but who found a niche of telling a niche market what they want to hear

but hey maybe i'm just part of the sneaky postmodern cultural marxism that people have been ranting about for at least a century
