Well, another month of lock down in BC. No surprise there. Should have locked down over Thanksgiving.

If Ontario continues the lockdown into February or beyond I will have to lay off my staff again. The system for that is quite streamlined for me and my staff so it needn't be a hardship. It is literally a few clicks on a government website.

It's customers who complain most. I've turned the ringers off on my phones. People just don't seem to get it. There is a serious disconnect in our society between what is essential and what isn't, and between understanding one's own interests vs acceptable risk.

Despite the talk of how cynical the business-at-all-cost ethos is, where I live, it is business that can and does get shut down or curtailed. It is the non-business side of our lives, I think, which is more open to abuse, carelessness and cynicism. We lack subtle, measured and effective mechanisms in our societies to deal with that. The exception are businesses that most directly serve the social-heavy leisure and hospitality aspect of our lives like restaurants, theatre, hotels, airlines etc. Those businesses are stick fiddled and we need to either prop them up through subsidy in the long term or decide that not only are they non-essential, but dangerous.

What do we do with ourselves? How do we live on a planet that no longer yields and is fighting back?

Actually, over the last 13 months, I've been lifting weights every morning. I added squats a few months ago, and I am hoping to add running soon.
