the autobahn may have sections with no speed limit, but street racing is still a crime

I don't normally care for civil forfeiture, but my region has had a number of problems with huge groups of motorists (some with vehicles NOT roadworthy) deciding to takeover highways, etc.
And Proteus brought the upright beast into the garden and chained him to a tree and the children did make sport of him.
I am pretty sure that, while their is no legislated speed limit that something along the lines of "safe and reasonable" is the law so you might be cited for unsafe speed even in the absence of a speed limit.
Also, cars have speed ratings in Germany. I think 4 categories, so something cheap like a VW Polo might have a class limit of..oh, say 90kph while only top end cars like Porches and S and C class Mercs might be unlimited.
Pictured in the article was a late 60's Camaro, I highly doubt it is legal for something so old and crude to be screaming along at 150mph+ on the autobahn.

Not even duct tape will fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Gumball Rally is awesome and worldwide, or was. I think they did one race from New York to LA. If you haven't seen one, look for the videos.

I don't know about the Gumball Rally but I know the Cannonball Baker, Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash was held 7 or 8 times back in the 70's.

An "unofficial" race from coast to coast - usually NY to LA. The most recent attempt to set a record wasn't that long ago, but it took a team of spotters and enough electronics to make the CIA/NSA jealous.
