Mazda Seems To Be Mimicing Pininfarina.

Post by Pariah »

I was looking at pictures of the upcoming, 2019 Mazda 3 and it set off my sense of dejavu so I looked around and...

The new Mazda3:

The GTC4Lusso and the FF before it are really the only Ferraris they have made in years that I might consider if I had fiddlesticks you money.

The red paint Mazda has been using the last couple of years is one of the best I like. I hear it chips easily and is not easy to respray though.

it's still a Mazda so, thanks, but no thanks.

The Mazda 3 is one of the more reliable vehicles out there and is usually cheaper than the "class leading" Civic/Corolla (which trade a lot on that reputation and are usually overpriced, even used.)

In terms of styling, recent Mazdas are really the only cars that still have the long hood and "low" look. Seems like pretty much everything else is cab forward and/or snub-nosed. It's probably not great for forward visibility, but I like the look.

I don't have any comparative data or measurements to back that up, of course. :)

The big difference between the Mazda3 and the Civic is the Mazda looks great and the Civic looks like ass.
Also, since Honda stopped making a decent hatchback they have been a non-starter for me. I seriously dislike sedans.

It is kinda weird looking but I have always liked that long nose, rounded back look, the hard top E-type Jag, MGB-GT, Triumph GT6+, the Cheeta...cars like that.

Okay, I'll give them a point for styling (cause it does look good) but I still don't like it cause it's Mazda. Alway felt like they were trying to be something they aren't.

The Ferrari is all wheel drive with a V12. So there's that.

But IMHO, the Mazda looks better.

I never paid much attention to Mazdas before I inherited my Dad's Mazda3 and I found it to be a really nice car. It looks pretty good, has very good acceleration, feels great on twisty-turny country roads and is surprisingly well made. My Mazda has 115,000 miles on it and the steering is still supper tight and the suspension is very good, I can really throw it into corners with a very confidence inspiring lack of body roll and grip.
As is typical of Jap cars from the mid '00s the dash and controls design is pretty bad, except for the heat/ac controls. But serviceable once you get used to it.
I don't know what you mean about "trying to be something they aren't", the Mazda3 has been getting good reviews n enthusiast magazines for almost 15 years now. They are a class leader in the sport hatchback segment.

I think the 2019 Mazda is the best looking car there is in that price range.

I'm sure the Mazda 3 is a good car. My prejudice is from over 20 years ago when all the people I knew that had them kept complaining about them breaking down all the time. My brother had one of their mid range cars and replaced the transmission 3 times in a year. (all under warranty thankfully for his sake)

the "something they aren't" is a race car. zoom zoom hahahaha everyone that drives one thinks it's a bloody race car and it just isn't. (present company exempt) but it seems all the bad drivers drive Mazdas, well okay and BMWs.

I'm sure they are fun to drive and maybe I should cut them some slack since the last time I drove one was well over 10 years ago, but...

I like the design. I have always been a fan of the long hood, short rear deck proportions that many would call phallic. However, those design principles have been proven time and again to produce some of the most iconic and beautiful cars, such as the Ferrari 250 GTO, the Jaguar E-type, the Toyota 2000GT, and countless Aston Martins. The reason cars with this shape are pleasing to the eye is because they follow the Golden Ratio in their design.

It is a good look for a sporty car, and that is what Mazda has always been. A sporty alternative to the likes of Honda and Toyota. Now if only they would make a new RX-7.

Yes, this does sound like an uncouth individual.

Often times people let the stereotype cloud their judgement of a person. However, if what Tos says is true, then the guy is undeniably an uncouth individual.

Totally tangential comment:
My Mazda3 has a little feature I have never seen in a car before. There is a dial on my dash that lets me raise and lower my headlights angle which means my head light mounts have a motor in them, which is weird.

This means you have HID headlights. All factory HID or Xenon headlights are self-leveling, but some can be adjusted from the cockpit. I've also seen this feature in an Infiniti FX-35.

I believe it is federal law that all HIDs be self-leveling.

if it helps, there's also a guy on my street who drives a neon green mustang with a noisy-ass engine, but he seems to drive civilly so i don't know if he's an actual uncouth individual

Yep, have HIDs. The brights on this thing are wicked bright.
