Winner of Breakthrough Junior Challenge 2017.

A brilliant short video explaining how observation frames are changed by relativity. It won a collective $400 K prize: $250 K for the student's higher education, $100 K to her school, $50 K to her teacher.

That's some pretty high higher education.

45 YEARS AGO TODAY: On December 11, 1972, during the first moonwalk of the Apollo 17 mission, astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt take turns posing next to the American flag, with the lunar module and moon buggy behind them. Schmitt is in the photo at the top; Cernan is below. Fun fact: Cernan salutes the flag because he’s a Navy man in addition to being an astronaut. Schmitt, on the other hand, is a civilian geologist who joined NASA as an astronaut-scientist.

The late founder of the company I work for (and great guy) created a component that is on that moon buggy. He designed the meter/device that could read battery life. Kinda cool to have something you created sitting on the moon.

Ok, now that is impressive. It does sort of make you wonder where the other portal is, though...

"Other" implies only two. There are least three and probably six.

uhm... looks cool... what is it? forgot the link?
I suspected Mars, but that is a picture of the delta of an Icelandic river. The bluish-milky color is due to glacial sediments.

Here is apparently where that picture originally came from, a photographic catalog by Sergey Aleshchenko. DO NOTE: there are large pictures at that link.

Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

On the upside, with the water frozen, there will be little wind in there. You might even be able to build a campfire and get it reasonably toasty, like an igloo.
