A follow-up to this: the Bad Astronomer on New Horizon's NEXT target:

That target in the Kuiper Belt has been designated KBO 2014 MU69 (or just MU69).

Recently it was found that MU69 would occult a star as seen from Earth, so a number of astronomers set up recording telescopes near and along the occultation path. The above is the apparent shadow that MU69 created with the red circles emphasizing the probable double-lobed nature of that shadow.

Well, the name of the movie was neither V'ger or Voyager...

And V'ger is short for Voyager...

I was phonetic.. shoulda googled it.

"A sentient, massive entity which threatened Earth in 2271, en route to find its "Creator." In doing so, V'Ger destroyed anything it encountered by digitizing it for its memory chamber."

V'Ger it is.

I have a question about Voyager. So they are way the hell over there trying to get home and their nominal course is best speed directly towards earth, why did they keep running into the exact same aliens over and over?
Years at warp but they can't get out of that one neighborhood.
I think the big mistake of STV and STE was not adopting the format of TOS and STNG but rather going with long story arches.
DS9 was the only ST to pull that off OK.
 for the convenience of the writers and the make-up artists.

1) They were "exploring" so their actual course from one week to the next was not "best speed directly to earth."
2) Some of the aliens were chasing after them.
3) They were not traveling as fast as you might think. Although it was stated in the pilot episode that Voyager was capable of warp 9.95, their initial distance from the Federation (70k light years) and their initial ETA (70 years) would indicate an average speed of warp 8. So they were basically jerking around to save gas.

Meanwhile, the Federation takes weeks or months to travel end to end, even at so-called "high warp." So it's not unreasonable to assume that it would take Voyager half a season to travel through the space owned by a particular empire. Longer if the empire in question is chasing you outside of their home territory. (Like the Kazon were in seasons 1-2.)

Also, yes, plot magic.

I'd rather have a Voyager movie than the reboots. They're home now, so they could just make any Star Trek story they wanted, with that cast and crew.

No more looking back with endless nostalgia. You only prolong the suffering of all things fading into the past. Look to the future to what new beautiful things arise.

I got to see the inside of my eye like that last week. No retinopathy, because I am not an idiot and didn't look into the sun.

I honestly don't understand how abjectly stupid some people are. I mean, there is stupid (Trump supporter) and then there is STUPID (looking into the sun).
