this is a hawaiian bobtail squid ... it's only 1.5cm in length and employs bioluminescent bacteria to not only turn its "light" on and off but control the brightness as well, all to assist in hunting

For some reason--maybe the mountains in the background?--I'm thinking that THIS particular usually dry lake is one of those next to I-15 close to the California-Nevada border
