Hells Canyon, Oregon

Something so pretty is called "hells canyon"? really? so what, is it a trap? it lures you in with the nice view, and when you get there, you're teleported to hell?

Thematic naming. You look into Hell's Canyon from the Heaven's Gate overlook, the local mountains are named The Seven Devils, etc.

a shot of the southern highlands of mars ... that's not shadow; the soil on the right (north) is darker, probably volcanic in origin

Funny,

She doesn't look Druish.

"an impressive feat because most women from that region and time lived only until their early 30s, "

This kind of thing bugs me because average life expectancy factors in a ton of deaths in childhood. I would think if you managed to get into your late teens, you'd have a good chance of reaching 65-75 unless Caorthannach or Balor attacked your village.

Women can get pregnant.

Before the creation of actually useful blood transfusions in the early 20th century it was rather common for pregnant women to die during childbirth due to blood loss. So much so that most pregnancies were seen as potentially life-threatening for every mother-to-be, with partial exceptions granted for those mothers who had at least one previous "easy" child birth.

^^ Wow, that's Mahameru. I didn't know there were actual instances of fabled Mt. Meru touching the Earth. I wonder if there are more. (This is a Hindu thing, Mt. Meru is the tallest mountain in the universe, passing through multiple planes of existence.)
