amazing science/nature images
That is a "really big deal". Awesome news.

That picture and that website make me feel like they're trying to sell me something. And that something is a scam.
So it takes steam to make cardboard boxes? I didn't know that. Yay! science!

Flesh Gordon was an X-rated movie from the '70s.

Too bad they hadn't invented selfie sticks in 1969. What a deprived generation.

So apparently the Highlanders somehow ended up on Jupiter.
We are now downloading our last views of Titan from Cassini:

Cassini has used a gravity assist from Titan to alter its orbit around Saturn so that it will start the first of its orbits between the inner rings and the apparent surface of Saturn. The probe will not to get this close to Titan before it is set to be de-orbited this coming September.
Cassini may get permanently damaged by passing through that zone inside the rings on its first orbit. It is set to turn its main radio dish forward in its orbit with the hope that if there is any damage that Cassini can better survive any impacts on its dish.

The big patch of Trillium and May Apples just outside my back gate.

Not even duct tape will fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Dara Orbach is probably one of very few people in the world who regularly gets sent dolphin vaginas in the mail.

The exciting life of a marine biologist, eh?

The LHCb experiment finds intriguing anomalies in the way some particles decay. If confirmed, these would be a sign of new physics phenomena not predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics. The observed signal is still of limited statistical significance, but strengthens similar indications from earlier studies. Forthcoming data and follow-up analyses will establish whether these hints are indeed cracks in the Standard Model or a statistical fluctuation.
