Yeah, there's several of those stereotypes I disagree with also. I found New York City to be quite friendly when I visited there a couple years back. They were much more forthcoming to strangers than people around LA would have been.
Yeah, NYC is a lot of things -- and not all of them good -- but after living there for 15-ish years, one thing I wouldn't say is that the people there are rude, especially to tourists. In fact, the extent to which most people will go out of their way to be nice to tourists is kinda mind blowing. I've seen people go several subway stops out of their way, even making different connections, just to make sure a tourist got off at the right place. Who knows.![]()

The production lines for the 747, 777, and 787. Sadly, it is a no camera tour (not even cell phones) so I can't show anything cool. I did see a big posterboard labeled SST on a cubicle in one of the engineering areas near the 787 production line...
