The constant misuse of literally drives me figuratively insane.

And "silly" used to mean "blessed". English is such a hodgepodge ship of Theseus, its to be expected. My modern parlance pet peeve is "conversate".

actually literally wrong.

Language, and its study, are descriptive, not prescriptive. This is listed because it is the common usage. The meaning of the word has shifted, in this case in the most confusing and inconsistent way possible. Oxford lists nearly the same thing, except it lists the later definition as informal.
usage: In its standard use, literally means ‘in a literal sense, as opposed to a nonliteral or exaggerated sense’: I told him I never wanted to see him again, but I didn't expect him to take it literally . In recent years, an extended use of literally (and also literal) has become very common, where literally (or literal) is used deliberately in nonliteral contexts, for added effect: they bought the car and literally ran it into the ground. This use can lead to unintentional humorous effects ( we were literally killing ourselves laughing) and is not acceptable in formal English.

It is the job of the dictionary to describe the state of the language, not the act as an arbiter of how language should be.

My current pet peeve is the non-word "performant" - what the hell does that mean anyway?

If we're gonna hijack the image thread with words...

I hate "should of" "could of". In those, it's not "of" it's HAVE!

It's "only" my "2nd language", but come on! You can't blame that on "popular usage" or "texting" or whatever.

It's could've, would've, ect, contractions of would have, could have, ect.
It just sounds like would of when said out loud.
