What I find amazing, is when I talk to my 16 year old son about music, he tells me that there is a sizeable number of his peers that listen to stuff like Lynyrd Skynyrd (interesting because a considerable number of the kids he hangs with are non white or biracial)

He will cite Steely Dan, Bob Dylan and Jeff beck as his favorite music.

Just a couple years ago I was in the local mall, where there was a large exhibit of art from students from the local high schools.
When ever there was some portrait of a musical group or artist it was almost entirely Hendrix, Beatles (mostly Lennon) Bob Marley, Tupac, G'n'R Led Zeppelin, etc.

Not much different from what you'd see in the '80s.
And Proteus brought the upright beast into the garden and chained him to a tree and the children did make sport of him.

Much like "classical" music from the 17th and 18th century, what has survived was the cream - or at least the most popular. There was some absolutely fantastic music produced in the 60's, 70's, and yes, even the 80's and 90's. Some portion of that will survive and become "classical music" one day.

The only real difference is that the stuff from way back when was distributed as sheet music, not recordings, so it was expected to be reproduced by musicians rather than machines.

Once when my son was little--about five or six, having recognized the melody, referred to the Allman Bros Mountain Jam as being the "classical music version" of Donovan's There is a Mountain.

Why don't you listen to something really classical, like Mozart, Mendelssohn or Motorhead?

I love the alliteration with this. Also, all of the above can be considered classic.

I listen to A LOT of different things, but yeah, the biggest percentage is 80s and 60s music.

in fairness it's pretty hard to imagine anyone sitting in front of the tv nowadays and watching music videos the way we did 35 years ago

MTV was just that, Music Television. You turned it on and rocked out. It was awesome - until "The Real World" came out, and then it started its slow descent into reality blatherskite.

Ooooh, conceptually that's a really neat design for a forklift. The lifting arms are rubbish, but I like the idea of a 360 degree rollerball drive wheel.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–Ben Carpenter got the ride of a lifetime when his electric wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semi-trailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for several kilometres at about 80 km/h and survived uninjured.

That's always at my sister's house.
It's got better packaging / branding than contents.

I never had that one (I wish) but I do remember having a small spaceship with the yellow cockpit window. Maybe something like this but I'm not sure
