That is some alarmingly awful typography in the headline.
I'm a bit surprised. Later on they always did nice type --though they did far, far less of it.

I want one of these:

Image

The description at BoingBoing includes these details:
Quote:
The Isle of Man 50p "Ram" coin features the head of a Manx Loaghtan, a breed of sheep native to the Isle of Man that sometimes sport as many as six horns. The smaller symbol with three armored-legs is part of the Isle of Mann's flag and dates back to the thirteenth century.

[links omitted]

Just to be sure: while I would appreciate one of these in the mail, my preference would be to get a whole set of Manx coins in my pocket change while there (not that THAT is likely to happen soon <sigh>).

1996: it was probably too slow to cause problems.

Recall that thing about "Storming Area 51"?

Well, it DID happen over this past weekend, kinda-sorta. Apparently (and surprisingly) a couple of thousand people actually showed up in Rachel, NV, (the hamlet that is closest to the entrance to Area 51), but because so few people showed up some people who attempted to promote this event (as opposed to that guy who made the original jokey Facebook post) had to cancel a music concert that was to be held this past Saturday. There were about a dozen arrests of people who atttempted to get into Area 51.

BUT there is another aspect to this online joke: Rachel has a population of only 54. The local officials were scared to death because they were looking at the threat of about a million people showing up and those officials not able to handle ANYTHING involving just a hundreth of that. Even those couple of thousand who did show up strained the local resources close to but not quite the breaking point...yet, since there may be aspects which won't become evident until months from now like having the local water table so lowered that the townspeople will run out of water without a lot of drilling.

And you post this here without any pics because...

Anyway, there are NO aliens, not even secret military planes, nor anything important in this "area 51" place. If anything, it's misdirection. The secret stuff is in another place, they wouldn't be secret if everyone knew where they keep them.
