Beta didn't tank, though. It just didn't take off with consumers thanks to VHS being cheaper. A lot of studios STILL have beta decks even today, and our church didn't retire the last Beta deck until we moved to the new facility and went to SSD storage.

Admittedly, the Beta deck wasn't used a whole lot prior to that thanks to the DAT drive, but we could output to it, and that was 2 years ago.

The later formats went to crap because Sony Studios couldn't keep their damn hands off of them.
