You know what the biggest mind-blowing change to our coffee has been recently?

RO filtered water from the grocery store.

I started buying it about a month ago for the fish tank, because our tap water has ammonia in it and hardness of ~500ppm (vs. the ~200ppm which the fish need.)

While we were discussing whether or not to buy a household RO system, we decided to try some for drinking too and HOLY CARP. The coffee almost tastes sweet now.

HaHa, I see what you did there ...

Do you get your RO water from, like, a dispenser (Glacier); or already bottled?

A dispenser. The local grocery store chain have big RO setups at their stores (serviced monthly by a subcontractor. They're just filtering tap water.)

I try to hop around between a couple different locations, so I can get water from the ones that have been serviced more recently.

They don't get all the ammonia out of the city tap water, but if I go to the one in the 'burbs about 3 miles from our house, they're on a township supply that doesn't treat with chloramines (chlorine + ammonia). Same as the one by where I work.

It's $0.39/gallon, plus the initial cost of a reusable container. Since a home setup for our needs would be like $500 plus filters, this is cheaper in the short to mid term. ($4, once or twice a week.)

Only downside is having to put aquarium minerals back in after the fact. (RO takes out EVERYTHING.) It was $10 for a container of that, but it will probably last us a year or more.

Both suck, but percolators are worse.

Stovetop percolator coffee reminds me of going to my grandfather's house as a kid.

We occasionally go camping with neighbors, Mrs. Neighbor has one of those enameled camping percolators and takes great pride it and the coffee.
I think it is akin to the "vacation beer" where people will talk glowingly of things like Red Stripe or El Presidente more because of thew fond memory of location than the quality of the beer.

I just use a French press intended for backpacking (and bring fresh ground).

Mother got her son's name misspelled on tattoo, decides to change son's name to match:

From "Kevin" to "Kelvin". He was 2 at the time of the tattoo (5 now).

Those parents recently had their third child--Freja--born, and they plan to have her name added.

Percolators are awesome! No better way to brew!

I had an art deco percolator once. Put it on the stove and took a shower. Came out to find the pot turned off and the coffee not made - younger roommate had turned the stove off "it was boiling like crazy!"
My staff loves the shop percolator. It's their brew method of choice.

Cute. I didn’t drink it; I just remember the odd gurgling sound and the brewing coffee smell.

Time spent with grandpa was always good time.

Not very. Those girls could really put away the coffee and cigarettes. :)
