That would be pretty narrow - like 4" wide paper or something. If you're only concerned with 40 columns of output and want to save space, I can see the usefulness. But did that used to be a thing?

thats wide enough for an 80 column paper to feed.
also the vents on the side are about right for a printer.
I can't find an image with that face on it.. shame more wasn't in the frame.
that's the 5 inch floppy on the left.

I think mostly the price, 10000$. And maybe the GUI was too new, too different. Also, IBM PCs and cheap clones.

I could have bought one out of a catalog in 1989 for $600.

Oops:

Apple's flagship store in Chicago has some design problems. The roof mimics the design of the MacBook Air, but lacking any gutters along its lower edges means that the areas next to those edges get pelted by snow and ice falling off. As a result one of the two entryways--the one going to the riverside walkway on the right side of the pic above--has been closed for the winter.

I distinctly remember a narrow dot matrix printer advertised in the early to mid 80s as a less expensive alternative to full size models. Okidata?
I'm sorry Dave...
