Seismologist Lucy Jones said on Twitter on Monday night that magnitude 4 quakes near the San Andreas “increase the chance” of a big quake “a little bit. But we have swarms without big [earthquakes] — most likely nothing more will happen.”

An interesting little bit I've learned is that in CA they now do frequent earthquake forecasts. Whenever there is a moderate sized earthquake, that increases the probability that there could be a larger earthquake, because that earthquake could be a foreshock (effectively an earthquake on the same fault before the largest earthquake).

Not prediction, but more effective forecasting.

Current forecast gives a 1 in 3000 to 1 in 100 chance of major earthquake by 10/4

Just lovely. Yeah, I can see how that'd add stress to the San Jacinto fault. If the big one can just hold off another year, I'll be gone.

Shake your head side to side, or up and down (like saying yes, or no), while watching this. Or I guess you can shake your phone or tablet.
