Other "bad tourist" stereotypes include:
Drunk brits, angry Germans, and continental Chinese.
Anyway, go places, spend money politely, and the locals will generally tolerate you.

Americans aren't nearly as bad tourists as you seem to think they are.
On the other hand, many travel agencies in asian countries will drop a hotel if it accepts large tour groups from China.

in my experience it's not the americans you need to worry about, it's those hard-drinkin' brits

Apparently it's all a scam and the project is being shut down. Huh.

What drugs was the artist of the first one taking when he made that monstrosity?
My assumption when I see something like that is that the bidding process was rigged. There should have been models made and whatnot.
Anyway, the original artist wanted money to fix it, then he was willing to fix it for free. But the mayor (presumably paid) a different artist to redo it.
That "Scary Lucy" statue has been moved just a short distance from where its replacement is now standing because it had become something of an attraction in itself. The mayor of Celoron--Lucille Ball's hometown--said:
"We've had thousands of people here over the past year from all over," he said. "...Even though the other statue is called 'Scary Lucy' or 'Ugly Lucy,' whatever the people want to call it, it's still artwork and not all artwork is beautiful."

That's a shame. Still, it didn't make engineering sense to me from the get-go.

That's about 20 minutes from my house. We have way too many "supercars" around here. Seriously. The local theater does this "movies in the park" thing on Friday nights, and it's standard for people to just hang out and watch from their Ferraris and Lamborghinis and Tony Stark Audis. The guy in that photo will probably just sell his car on Craig's List and get a new one in a few days.
