Ah, I was right: a Yugoslavian WWII memorial, specifically Kosmaj.

I'm not surprised that's where it was. Those look neat!

funny someone should mention pokemon ... today the principal of my kid's elementary school sent out an email banning pokemon cards because they were starting fights (kids were making trades then regretting them)

Heh. Because that worked with Magic, baseball cards, garbage pail kids, etc...

Good luck, I guess.

You go to war with the Pokemon you have, not the Pokemon you want!

Ah, right. Sorry, I thought that the name was above and not below the picture because (at least as displayed on Safari) the vertical spacing between the picture and the name was larger above the name than below.

Edge of space? 12 miles? not even close.

From wikipedia:

There is no firm boundary where space begins. However the Kármán line, at an altitude of 100 km (62 mi) above sea level, is conventionally used as the start of outer space in space treaties and for aerospace records keeping.

I am thinking its a safe bet that blimp was photoshopped over Delaware.

We've got our own blimps. Though some have had problems lately. ;)

It's allowed just as long as they keep them tethered at the end of the driveway.

The Army lost an aerostat (tethered blimp tore free of its mooring) and it floated free over Pennsylvania for a while yesterday. I'm going to guess engineering failed to adequately estimate the wind forces that might operate on the mooring. My eyeball estimate is that mooring looks kinda flimsy. Though I suppose it could also be operator error lashing it down properly when moored. The dragging tether broke lots of power lines along the way. Last I read, the local police filled it full of buckshot holes to leak out the remaining helium and bring it down. Though I'm curious why they didn't wrap the dragging tether a few times around a suitably large oak at some point.

And since this is a picture thread, here's a nice one of the JLENS aerostat

Probably because they did a risk assessment and decided that the risk of injury or death wasn't worth it?
