VID-E-OOOOs (YouTube, TikTok or otherwise)
Tweet video of a man into whose taxi a hawk had flown due to Hurricane Harvey.
In the responses there is a further YouTube video showing that he had gotten the hawk into his home, providing it with some raw chicken parts and with water while the worst part of the storm passed overhead.

One of those "Huh. I wish I came up with this" ideas: 1-minute hourglass filled with iron filings on a magnetic base.
She's a reincarnated soul or a time traveler. (ok, it's 1930s/40s style of singing)

Thanks.

That dude is lucky to be alive. I love standing outside watching it when we have a lightening storm but I stand under my deck, not on top of it near tall conductors like this idiot.
Situational awareness...develop it.

Not even duct tape will fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.
I have always adored Laura Dern. She is a terrific actress and perfectly believable in every role I've ever seen her in, but you have to watch this video tweet.
OK, I made a mistake by first posting "Chris Hadfield's Rare Earth" video series in the Political Images thread here. While some of them are political in nature they aren't quite THAT political. Anyone with some interest in history should find them fascinating.
Here is the latest chapter: "How the Yakuza Gave Rise to Nintendo". I very much recommend using the pause button to read the (near-)ending text panel as they have jokes and puns, and those are SOMETIMES near-ending because Evan Hadfield may add a sometimes humorous bit of video that was edited out AT the very end.
Here is a link to the entire series--currently with 19 episodes--with all of them in the sidebar to the right of the video in reverse order of publication. While I have linked that to the "next" episode--"The Kamikaze That Saved Japan"--as newer videos are added you should see that its number to its side in that sidebar will no longer be "2".
Aside from an occasional reference to an "earlier video in the series", the viewing order is not particularly important.
While so far the series has been about Japan, I had read somewhere that Evan Hadfield and crew soon will be going on to Cambodia.

I'll watch that later.
I must say that I don't remember watching that movie, but I remember watching a movie about a group of people in a lifeboat, and that's was all the movie, and I remember it being good. I wish I remembered the name, it was an old movie, black and white, and there were men and women on the boat, I think. I also think they were civilians...
*googles a bit*
It might be this one

I also remember liking a movie that's basically Whoopi Goldberg alone in an apartment. Also good.

That is actually a really good video, and a really good movie. Much like the movie "The American President", which presents (by the end) an almost idealized president, "12 Angry Men" presents the ideal jury. It's incredible that it never gets old, despite being set in a fairly tiny room, with only a bathroom to break it up, and is definitely one of the essential classic films anyone who enjoys the medium should watch.
That "12 Angry Men" video also explains--as the narrator puts it--why in much of today's movies and TV one sees "the same basic boring coverage grabbing every actor in every set up at 12 different angles...and if you want to spice things up, then you'll throw in an Aaron Sorkin walk-n-talk".
From Japan a robot dog sniffs at people's feet, plays dead if they stink. Narration in Japanese but with English subtitles.
At the current price of about $10 K this isn't likely to have many sales elsewhere, but in Japan--where in many homes it is customary to remove one's shoes--it is considered socially offensive to go into someone's house with stinky feet.

One of my very favorite songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc-dBDw0NX0
"Blow Away"
A man and a woman come together as strangers
When they part they're usually strangers still
It's like a practical joke played on us by our Maker
Empty bottles that can't be filled
[Chorus]
Baby who's to say it could have been different now that it's done
Baby who's to say that it should have been, anyway
Baby who's to say that it even matters in the long run
Give it just a minute
And it will blow away
It'll blow away
You fancy me to be the master of your feelings
You barely bruise me with your looks to kill
Though I admit we were sometimes brutal in our dealings
I never held you against your will
[Chorus]
Your case against me is so very clearly stated
I plead no contest, I just turn and shrug
I've come to figure all importance overestimated
You must mean water when you beg for blood (note 1)
[Chorus]
Like a feather in a whirlwind
Blow away
Just as sure as the world spins
Blow away
[etc]

Yes, well keep in mind that the reason I posted that specific one is that she keeps a straight face until nearly the end and it is nearly 7 minutes long.
