What movies would you recommend for that person?
Depends. What are you looking for? Comedy? Thrills? Action? Thought?

Death of Stalin was good.
I would also want to know why that person stopped watching any movies 5 years ago. "I was stuck in prison in Uganda for that time" might suggest something different from "I just stopped because nothing interested me".

I would recommend "The Great Escape"

Are you looking for movies that are five years or less old, or movies that are currently in theaters? As in; "I haven't been to a theater in five years, and I'd like to go today."?
Jaws (1975)
Rope (1948)
The Red Violin (1998)
Annie Hall (1977)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Casablanca (1942)
A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
The Music Man (1962)
Silverado (1985)
Double Indemnity (1944)
The Major And The Minor (1942)
The Life Of Brian (1979)
It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
The Battle Of Britain (1969)
The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1973)

Depression, mostly, to be honest.

And I haven't watched zero movies, just very few.
Then funny ones. Deadpool, the new Sonic movie is supposed to be good, ant man?
OK, so really more "nothing at all interested me" as opposed to "nothing in movies interested me."

If you like "competence porn" (i.e., people doing complex things competently) let me recommend The Martian (2015).

For general heartwarming family fun I do recommend Frozen (2013). Yeah, yeah, parents complain about how they were dragged by their young kids to see it TOO MANY TIMES such that they react violently whenever ANY song from this movie appears anywhere, but I was not stuck in that situation. Beautifully done with hummable music and at its core a different kind of love story.

I have not seen Frozen II (2019) yet but it has gotten nearly universally positive reviews.

Along a similar line to that first Frozen movie, how about Maleficent (2014)?

For an intellectual horror movie watch Get Out (2017). Somewhat slow getting started. being attentive to details pays off well.
RIPD was a good movie, and it's on netflix. It's a good cop/bad cop flick except both of the cops are dead and one's a 400 year old gunslinger that looks like a hot blonde to others.
Onward is supposed to be good.

...You missed Frozen and Tangled? Wreck it Ralph and the sequel?

All Pixar movies are good.

Frozen was good (it's Disney, but not Pixar) Haven't seen Frozen 2 yet.

If you like mindless over the top action flicks : Fast and Furious 9, Hobbs & Shaw. Solo: A Star Wars story.
I strongly suggest both Deadpools. Also Guardians of the galaxy. Inception. Mr Robot (tv series season 1 to 4) Counterpart (season 1 and 2) Better call Saul. The Patriot.

I think all of the suggestions in this thread are excellent (except for one, but I'll let everyone guess which it is).

Once you get through the topnotch stuff (Jaws, etc.) I'd recommend the MCU movies from Iron Man through Endgame as a solid popcorn investment.

I don't think any of the MCU movies are bad—at their worst, they're "okay"—and several of them are genuinely fun and exciting movies.

I encourage watching even the worst ones, though, because that's part of what makes Endgame such an impressive payoff to what is an incredible experiment in popcorn movies.

I can't think of any other sci-fi or fantasy movie franchise that has pulled off what Marvel did.
From Russia With Love (1963)
Monsters Inc. (2001)
Angel Heart (1987)
Elizabeth (1998)
Revolutionary Road (2008)
The Bourne Identity (2002)
The Princess and the Pirate (1944)
A Walk in the Sun (1945)
The Right Stuff (1983)
Doctor Strange (2016)
Rear Window (1954)
