Golden Country by REO Speedwagon. Still 100% relevant today, 50 years latter.

The last song on R.E.O. T.W.O.
I literally wore out my copy of that album.

I have an REO story:
Back before REO hit it big the owner of a burger joint in downtown Champaign IL let them practice in the basement of the place and gave the band members free food when they were broke. He always told them that they could pay him back by giving him their gold records when they earned them, something that seemed unlikely.
I was in Champaign in the mid 80's and went to that burger joint and there in a big display case was all of REO's gold albums. The band kept the deal they made.

REO was one of a triumvirate of Illinois bands that hit it big in the 70's: REO, from Champaign, Cheap Trick from Rockford and Head East from Monroe Wi but their home base where they played their early gigs was Freeport IL which was a larger town 5 miles from Monroe. I saw all three in local rock bars regularly before anyone knew who they were.

Awesome!
The only band I can say that about is one-hit-wonder "Exile". They used to play at a bar called The Family Dog in Richmond, KY.

Rockford, where I grew up, was a major stop on the upper Midwest rock circuit. I even got to see Manfred Mann's Earth Band in a sticky floored rock dive bar just before Blinded By The Light hit. If I remember right the door cost was $3.00.
Also, I was on the committee to hire a band for a dance at my high school and we turned down Cheap Trick because they wanted $350 for the gig and the budget was $300. This was about 6 months before In Color hit.
We ended up hiring a band called Albatross that everyone thought was going to be a big thing but they flamed out.

Brian Ferry continues to have his own very distinct audio sensibility. It is weird how consistent he can be. This new song from last year would have fit right in sonically with his album Avalon, which was released 30 years ago. Still waving that angsty New Wave banner in 2020.

Really digging this band, Dry Cleaning. The singer throws off some real Tilda Swinton vibes.

Johnny Boy - You Are The generation That Bought More Shoes

One of my favourite tracks from the latest Adam Curtis documentary series. He always edits the best music to help tell his story.
