The more I hear about the Marathon series, the more I realize that there was a complex and interesting storyline that I never knew about.

I tried all of the Marathon games when they were the thing, but always found the controls to be awkward and the storylines to be unfathomable. I never got very far with them.

I've tried the Marathon Aleph thingy since hearing about it, but the games weren't any better than I remembered them, and having played Halo... well, it felt like I was being punished for something, not playing a game I was interested in.

Have there been any rumblings whatsoever about Bungie re-realizing the original Marathon games using a more modern interface and feel? I hope so - those are games I'd probably jump to play.

No, there are no rumblings of any kind.

With Aleph One, you can make the controls anything you want. I use WASD+mouse, like any modern FPS.

The games rock. The original Marathon is still my favorite for solo play. Infinity is used for online play.

There's a port of the original Marathon to the Unreal 99 engine, if you want "real 3D".

I play Aleph One with hi-res textures and weapons.

Also, there's the longest thread ever in the Inside Mac Games forum. You probably won't read it.

heh, i used to write for them way back in the day

it wasn't a paying job, unless you count the free games I would get to keep :D

but at that rate, i was probably making somewhere in the vicinity of 50ยข and hour, but it was worth it! and tuncer is a cool guy, he let me pick the games i wanted to review, so I never got stuck reviewing some wasteful game like princess party puffy pants and her pretty pink pony

Nice... but you need "Unreal Tournament" to play it? That's a show-stopper here. :(

I am downloading the zip file as the umod installer that I have is only for classic and I have an intel now.

The floot-slap sound of a jump was a UT sound and I found it very distracting to hear that in Resurrection. Other than that, it was a lot of fun.

Aleph One Forevah!

Here's some video captured with an OLD version of Snapz Pro. No idea why, but it wouldn't get the sound.

Resurection is just a little too dark and does not seem to use the brightness settings at all.

I can't see anything in there.
