I never could get past the spin-up time with monks. They are great once they get their high level abilities, but until then? I've had monks get taken out by rats. At least mages get a little magic to help them make it through the lower levels - monks get little more than harsh language.

Minsc is cool and all, but if you want reliable butt kicking, you want Mazzy. She was criminally underrated, IMO.
