Apple turns 50

Happy 50th, Apple.

Macs that I’ve had over the years (excluding my vintage Apple collection) are as follows:

LC III (first home computer, and the machine that got me interested in computing to begin with)
PowerBook 1400c/166 (first laptop, was bought for me to take to boarding school)
iMac 333 ...

Cars

Yeah, same. Especially when they’re on an SUV or 4x4 in which case they’re at my eye level. Even worse if they’re behind me shining bright into my rear view mirror because I wear glasses which makes them even worse. Like, I’m glad your lights are powerful enough to see as far away as Perth, but I ...

Mac OS X turns 25

I still remember how exciting it was. I had a tray load iMac that ran it, if somewhat slowly. I still have it (though the CRT takes a few minutes to warm up), though around 15 years ago I formatted it and reloaded it with OS 9, and have since had it as a dedicated OS 9 only machine.

I’ll be interested to see what happens if/when Chinese cars finally start getting sold there. We’ve had a lot of issues with them rusting here, despite Australia being a fairly warm climate where we have no reason to salt the roads unlike you guys. Even cars from the 90’s here still look just about ...

Security update for older iDevices

Ran the update on Mum’s iPad today when she came for lunch. For whatever reason it rebooted again and had another go at installing the update after the first attempt, not sure if thats normal or because Mum’s iPad is almost out of space.

Security update for older iDevices

Thanks, just passed this onto my Mum, she’s still using an iPad Air 2. Its old, can’t run some apps, and can’t render some websites properly anymore but for the most part it still does most of what she needs, everything else she can do on her iPhone

Today I was shocked to learn the Neo comes with just 8GB of RAM with no option to order one with more.

That is insane. Super disappointing.

No Thunderbolt either. Literally every Mac has Thunderbolt these days. And one of the “USB-C” ports is actually USB 2.0. Reminds me of the clamshell ...

Why the hell am I holding on to this old ass Macbook?

I had one for a few years that I was using daily up until 2023 when I think either the logic board or DC in board kicked the bucket. Interesting, I’ve got a couple of older Cisco 4500E HD cameras that lack ONVIF support, wonder if this will work on them and bring them into the modern age. I’m pretty sure 001 is one of the few issues I still have, though in pretty poor shape as I just about read the print off it as a kid/teenager. Definitely still have the Cover Disc.

Physical exertion, or the things you do to stay alive these days

I spend a fair amount of my time DoorDashing these days which keeps my exercise up, with all the walking and running around I do. It's weird to think about posting on MAF being 16 and now I'm in my 40s.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to hobble on down to get some prunes from my fridge...

I was 14, still practically a kid, now I’m 41. Where did all the years go?
