Cook will continue on as Apple CEO through the summer, with Ternus set to join Apple's Board of Directors and take over as CEO on September 1, 2026. Cook is going to transition to chairman of the board at Apple, and he will "assist with certain aspects of the company, including engaging with policymakers around the world."

So is John Apple any more creative and daring?

Honestly, I hope it's positive, because Tim Cook has presided over a pretty big drop in quality in terms of macOS releases. With a few notable exceptions, since Steve Jobs died, the changes to macOS have more often been changes to be dreaded instead of looked forward to.

And the operating system's consistency has gone to hell.

I find CF's takes to be tepid at best on most subjects. "Resigns" lol - the man freaking retired, he's 65.

YouTubers gonna clickbait. I don't like it either. But in the video he actually says Cook is "stepping down" from the CEO role.

When the competition is Windows, I'm guessing Cook (rightly) thought there wasn't much point.

I think Tim Cook has been awful, really. If there's one thing that has stuck out to me about his time at the top, it's that Apple lost a lot of what made it special. We used to eagerly anticipate the things Apple would add, and now it's like "Oh, look, three new emojis." :goth:

Windows is awful. I am hopeful that European countries drifting away from the United States will make Linux more viable as a competitor. It's great for security, but the interfaces I have seen for it have left so much to be desired. It's a pain in the ass for someone who wants consistency. It's a shame, because I absolutely LOVE the CLI.

Cook was an efficiency guy, not an idea guy, and he lacked that creative drive for excellence that Jobs brought. Jobs may have been an unrelenting asshole, but he understood something bean counters like Tim Cook never will, how to merge creativity with productivity.

I hope the new guy can tighten up, pull back or eliminate some of the dumb UIX decisions.
