The net's governing body Icann will reconsider the .xxx scheme on 12 March.

Icann had previously given the domain the go ahead in 2005, but reversed the decision two years later amidst protests from US conservative groups.

An independent review recently concluded that decision was unfair and that the plan should be reconsidered.

Isn't it amazing. A plan to create a system where porn can be blocked is protested by US conservative groups.

This is just so much like stopping teenage pregnancy by not having sex education classes in High School.

makes my head spin, tryin' to figure some of these people out ...

I remember first hearing about this back in 2002. I'll believe it when it happens.

Some conservative groups think that it will just make it easier for kids to find porn.

Others think that .xxx is totally pointless since porn sites won't be required to use it, so even if you block it there will still be all the .com porn sites.

That's/They're stupid. It's harder not to find porn.

That's true, but it doesn't change anything. .xxx is just a marketing opportunity and a lot of additional money for ICANN, which isn't an inherently bad thing.

Or, "Why do US Conservatives hate the free market?"

Great analogy. That's dead-on.

Clearly, no one in those conservative groups has ever noticed Google Image Search.

Our firewall forces Strict Safesearch on all Google searches now. Images or otherwise.

But not on Yahoo.
